“The Departed” actor Mark Wahlberg recently shared sweet details about how his family celebrates the holidays. The “Daddy’s Home” actor and his wife, Rhea Durham, are parents to four children: Ella, 19; Michael, 16; Brendan, 14, and Grace, 12.
Mark opened up about getting ready for the holiday season to HELLO magazine. He revealed he is excited about creating memories at their new home and looking forward to the new home being completed.
Early fame and film career
Born on June 5, 1971, in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S., Wahlberg gained fame as a member of the rap group Funky Bunch before establishing himself in a successful film career.
At 39, the actor began dating Durham in 2001, and the pair married in August 2009. The dad-of-four spoke to HELLO about planning holidays and sharing responsibilities with his wife.
He mentioned that they are both very involved in prepping for the holidays. He likes to grill some steaks and make some burgers while his wife is responsible for purchasing the gifts and decorating the house.
They have recently moved to the Silver State, and this holiday season will be their first in Nevada. On every vacation, Mark makes it a point to take his family on holiday, wherein his wife plans all the destinations and travel itineraries while he gets involved in the other day-to-day stuff.
“No place like home”
Mark Wahlberg feels there is no place like home for the festive period. Still, this year he is attending a private event to celebrate the debut of Flecha Azul Tequila at The Fontainebleau Miami Beach’s Bleau Bar.
In an exclusive with HELLO, the Flecha Azul Tequila investor shared that every Thanksgiving, as a couple, they always try to get together and invite as many people as possible.
This allows them to connect with their siblings and their extended family.
Growing up as one of the youngest among nine kids from a working-class family living in the Dorchester district of Boston, he had seen several hardships in his life. Therefore Wahlberg understands the importance of the courage to go out there and find the right partners. He believes in taking risks and motivates others to do so.
He always preferred Thanksgiving as their best holiday because everybody would come and pray and be grateful for many things. Talking on the occasion, he said that his wife doesn’t drink and his kids are not old enough to drink, so as a Flecha Azul Tequila investor, he may have a little tequila in a very neat quantity.
While talking on his holiday trip, Mark recalled one instance in 2014 when he had to ditch his plans to hit the ski slopes where he wanted to treat his family to a post-Christmas getaway.
But his wife Rhea Durham demanded and insisted they jet off to a sunny break in Barbados, a Caribbean Island, to escape the cold, harsh weather. His hopes for an adventure-filled vacation were dashed as his wife blackmailed him, saying that embarking on such an adventure trip would end their marriage.
He wanted to enjoy the snow, the sled, and snowboarding with his kids, but his wife is from Florida and is not comfortable in cold weather. Mark even mentions that his plans to celebrate holidays more spiritually with no gifts, to donate and go to church, were rejected by his wife as she loves to have fun on holidays and wants to keep this religious aspect away from herself.
Coming from a dysfunctional family, he believes that despite several differences, they have got to work it out, as he firmly believes that family is the most important thing. In terms of planning holidays, Wahlberg added that holidays are meant to spend quality time together, so they are always excited and looking forward to enjoying every moment.
Cool Projects in Line and Business Expansion
In detail, he spoke that getting through the pandemic has been very difficult, but he was thankful that he could do some cool projects.
Moreover, he created a great partnership with the Mustaca family after the coronavirus. He got a $50 million deal in partnership to open 15 movie-themed restaurants next to United Cinema venues.
As a savvy businessman, Mark Wahlberg is a major investor in the F45 gym franchise. Apart from this, he has his burger chain in 51 locations in the U.S. and Canada. He shares that finding great balance is the key to his success and wants to expand his fast-food empire Down Under. Over these years, he diversified his business by producing films and television shows, notably the cult hit HBO series Entourage (2004–11).
